DENVER — The Rockies have summoned right-handed pitcher from Triple-A Albuquerque, according to multiple baseball sources . He will fill the spot of veteran lefty , who is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain that forced him from Tuesday night’s 9-4 loss to the Pirates.

It was not immediately known when or whether Butler, 25, a purple baseball jersey supplemental first-round choice out of Radford University in 2012, would be added to the starting rotation. He is 2-0 with a 4.09 ERA in four starts at Albuquerque. Butler has gone six innings in each of his last three starts, with a 3.00 ERA, 10 strikeouts and three walks.

In Major League stints the last two years, Butler is a combined 4-11 with a 6.04 ERA in 19 starts. Last year, he made the Opening Day roster and went 3-10 with a 5.90 ERA in 16 starts over two stints. Butler was twice sent to Albuquerque, where he went 2-6 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 starts.

During the offseason, Butler returned to his boyhood pitching coach, former Major Leaguer Gary Lavelle, and revisited the two-seam fastball that served him well in college and the Minors. The Rockies optioned him during Spring Training, but manager Walt Weiss said at the time that he had seen improvement.

De La Rosa started on Opening Day, but he has battled lower fastball velocity and spotty command while going 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA, with four of the starts going fewer than five innings.
